Things to Think About

Key Takeaways

Flying Out

If you have the chance to explore the world do so. I found comfort in many places and learned so much from comparing my living situation with another location. I really enjoyed Minnesota, there will be plenty of friends waiting for me there, a vacation over the breaks to meet up will be fun.

Fitting in

Not everyone will want to be your friend, and that's fine. Fitting in is finding the people who fit you, who accept you, not for changing but for being you. If you find someone who is completely different than you and you hit it off, see where that friendship takes you. Living life is about trial and error, not knowing what's to come.

Striving for excellence

Working hard in everything you do, giving it your all is important. Just remember that you don't have to stick with a job you don't want. Put in the effort in school and job experiences to not have to stay in a job you don't like. Get the chance to choose where you want to work. But also keep your connections, they may be able to help.

Giving & Growing

Doing service has helped me grow as a person, learn things I never knew. An example is redlining, I live in a redline community but knew nothing about redlining until the service. However, through that lesson I have been compelled to help out my community as best I can.

Experiences

Prom

Make the most of what there is. Even if it isn't a lot, make it the best experience possible.

Trips

Don't be afraid to leave the state, you can find many new friends that aren't local. Even find a state that really calls out to you. Maybe LA might not be your place.

Work/Internships

Take advantage of the internships offered. Make as many connections as possible, you never know if the connection you make can give you a big lead in the corporate world.

Service

Although it's mandatory, have fun in the services you do. If you can go with friends, do so and really feel the impact you make in your area, city, state, or even your effect on the world.

Last words
to the underclassmen

“Don’t slack off, I took that for granted. If you struggle don’t be afraid to ask for help. Also, since Verb got soft, if you're like me and do pretty good in your classes without trying, find a way to be above passing. Find the motivation you need to excel not just pass. That way good habits are made and can be taken into college. One last thing. JOIN DRUMLINE!!”
