Core Values - Vocation

Therapist

Aidan finds some sense of self and enjoyment listening to the problems of others. Some may say being given a lot of problems can strain a person and cause problems. So far, nothing has bothered him and he actually gets a refresh of mental state when success in helping or being there for someone is achieved.

Service

Aidan was forced into doing service hours by Verbum Dei Jesuit High School. Without 100 service hours by the end of senior year graduation would be off the table until completed or paid for. However, after each service, a sense of accomplishment was felt and fun was had with peers who went along. A new experience and a new liking was found. perhaps service will continue in the future.

Business

Friends are one of Aidan's core values and they drive him to be better and succeed in life. Although lazy, Aidan does not want to hit a samsara (an endless cycle) that he can not escape from. Efforts are made continue the work that is needed to keep those who depend on him.

Belief

Catholicism is a big value for Aidan, finding the baseline for what good and bad could be. Using Catholicism to live a better, honest, and humble life. As well as having a purpose to live, sort of like having a reason to work hard, a reward. It sounds bad, but that’s just how life is, working hard to get a reward, For most it’s money, for him it’s heaven.

Leaving my Mark

How did I leave my mark on Verb? I helped start the drumline. I’m not sure if I have influenced any other students to join next year, but it will for sure be best known because of this year, my senior year. We've performed a lot better and more than we did the year before, my junior year, but we could have improved. I know that next year, if they continue drumline, changes will be made. Changes such as better scheduling, more consistency, and probably some better songs. More time to improve people’s skills. I want the next set of drummers to surpass me.

What is Aidan's Vocation?

What brings him joy is being able to help others in their time of need as a therapist, because he feels as if he is very impactful toward those he has helped. Aidan believes that he's good at listening to people and being there to give his advice. Since he's not a real therapist, his input has been given criticism because he is not a taker of sides and so if they mess up he tells them. Sharing his ability to see both sides is a great way to help those who are blinded by anger or sadness to stop, think, and evaluate the situation, inevitably helping his friends or potentially others to improve themselves. Augustine also noted, “-Dissatisfaction- (restlessness) is not a bad thing…indeed it’s the best thing about us.- It’s what constantly moves us forward, makes us grow, expands our horizons, and deepens our perceptions. It’s a very healthy, a very important, and a very valuable thing!” (Himes 1). He believes what Augustine stated is true and should be pondered on. Think about one’s own life? What dissatisfies you? What can be improved on? With the help of brilliant people much like Augustine, Aidan is able to help his fellow brothers and sisters under God to find their true self.
